SURVEY RESULTS SUMMARY
Firstly thank you to all who took the time to respond to our member survey, we received 23 responses from current and past members. The constructive feedback will certainly assist in guiding the club into the future.
The overall sentiment was certainly positive, as a committee we would like to share a summary of the feedback and results of our discussions from it.
An item that has been mentioned in several responses is the desire for a training only membership (without thee requirement to also sign up to Triathlon Victoria/Australia). The key reason why we are currently unable to offer such a membership is as part of our affliction with Triathlon Australia all members must be also TA members.
Our affiliation offer many benefits to the club and members including our public liability insurance for the club (including races) for a low fee of $250 (Quotes for seeking this coverage direct in the past have been circa $10,000). It is also a good time to remind members that there are many benefits to you for being a member of TA including insurance protection when training and racing (http://www.triathlon.org.au/Membership/Benefits_of_Annual_Membership.htm).
The committee has undertaken to again review the affiliation this year and way up the best option as to whether to continue with the affiliation or become independent again. We will also talk with TA to discuss the ability to offer teared memberships (as other bodies do).
Feedback with regard to the training offered by the club was overall positive, there was acknowledgment that it is difficult to cater to the wide variety of training methodologies and schedules. The committee intends to review the schedule and offering when heading into the winter season and again before the next summer season.
There are a few elements of the training schedule that are worth discussing:
A desire for more group road rides at various times has been expressed throughout the survey responses. As discussed in an earlier social media post we don’t currently have any “official” pre-scheduled road rides. What we have been doing is posting in the member Facebook group planned rides with an invitation to join (particularly on weekends). We do again encourage all members to use the Facebook group as a way of sharing your ride intentions if you would like to be joined.
Several respondents to the survey raised that they would like to see some alternative sessions (e.g. bike maintenance, transition training, skills sessions, nutrition advice etc.) be included in the club schedule. We agree this can be of benefit to members and are looking to do this as a monthly session through winter (possibly continue with the first Monday of the month), we will be calling on members and our supporting organisations to assist in the facilitation of these sessions.
Additional to the above it has been suggested to work in again with other clubs and organisations (Runners Club, Cycling Club, Parkrun etc.). We most certainly will look to do this and happy to combine with other organisations to increase offerings.
A point that has been raised both in the survey and outside of the survey has been a perceived conflict of interest particularly between the Club and Thrive Endurance. The committee has spent a significant time discussing this over the last few months and has put in place a few items to address this.
Firstly we have looked at the relationship itself and taken the view that the relationship is one of an alignment of interests rather than conflict. As a club we would like to bring Triathletes in the Goulbourn Valley together rather than creating a divide.
To allay concerns of preferential treatment we have also taken some active measures including the introduction of our committee meetings being on the set schedule of the first Monday of the month with an open invitation for members to attend. We have also taken the step to have a page on our website that lists available coaches in the region; our requirement for listing is that the coach is both accredited and a member of the club. We are also looking to update the website to include all committee members and where they wish a disclosure of any business affiliation.
We received a lot of positive feedback with regard to the events (including races) that we hold, in particular people have liked the social aspects of the mini races. There is certainly encouragement to continue to build these events.
Many respondents indicated that they would like to become more involved in the club from a volunteer and potential committee member perspective (of course the survey was anonymous so we are unable to contact you directly). There are many ways that you can contribute including lending a hand around the club and at events, assisting and welcoming new members, sharing opportunities to train with other members and being a general advocate for the club and the sport of Triathlon. If you would like more information please talk with a committee member.
We thank all that participated in the survey again and will look to do this again in the future so that together we can have a strong club that is a positive environment for members and guests.
