About the club championships
The Club Championships are open to all members of the Shepparton Triathlon Club (STC) and competing in the Club Championships is a great way to stay focused on training and racing throughout the year.
A points system has been adopted to determine the winners which will allow everyone to compete on an equal footing based on their own age category, making for an exciting, fair and even competition throughout the entire season.
This year you can compete in any Sprint (excluding mini), Olympic or Long Course event that can be used to aggregate you points tally. See below to determine how to aggregate your points.
Awards / Prizes
We will be looking to crown an overall club champion for season 2016 / 2017 and a number of other awards.
Masters (Over 50) Club Champion
Male Club Champion and Runner up
Female Club Champion and Runner up
Most improved triathlete
Volunteer of the Year
The Club Champions will both receive the Hooper-Toll Perpetual Shield, which they hold for a period of 12 months.
The award is named after Life members Lindsay Hooper and Mick Toll, co-founders and legends of the STC.
Eligibility for the Award
To be eligible for the honor of Shepparton Triathlon Club Champion, or be eligible for the runner up prizes all you need to do is:
Be a paid up member of Shepparton Triathlon Club and;
Compete in a minimum of 5 races during the season
Attend as many club training sessions / functions as possible
Races to be Sprint, Olympic or Long Course Events (excludes mini Sprints)
Your top 5 races will be used to calculate your score in the club championships. This varies slightly for Iron distance athletes who only have to compete in 4 races (Points for full Iron distance are worth double normal points).
Participants are awarded points based on their race time in comparison to the race time of the winner in their age group. The winners time is converted into seconds and divided by your time in your age group. That total is then multiplied by 1000 to give you the points for the race. (i.e winner’s time = 30 minutes divided by your time = 40 minutes multiplied by 1000 = 750 points). This ensures that all age group competitors compete on a level playing field which makes for an exciting and even competition.
The points for each competitor’s best 5 races during the season are tallied at the end of April, with the winner being whoever has the most points from the 5 races.
PLEASE NOTE: Members participating in the Club Championships will be required to email their results and the results of the winner in their age group to sheppartontriclub@ gmail.com if they want their results to be included in the points tally.
